After moving to the Los Angeles area three years ago from her lifelong home in Florida, Alice Wallace threw herself into the performing circuit - steadily attracting larger audiences and landing opening spots with well-known artists like Lisa Loeb, Shawn Mullins, Sophie B. Hawkins and Al Stewart. Now she's touring with her first full-length studio album, "Sweet Madness". With a style that falls somewhere between the alt-country crooning of Emmylou Harris and the bluesy timbre of Bonnie Raitt, Alice draws from simple and honest folk melodies she learned from her father growing up when crafting her songs about life, love and the pursuit of that ever-elusive happiness. www.alicewallacemusic.com

In the spirit of the holiday, we challenged local musicians to write a new song for the new year and perform it on our showcase. Taking up the challenge: Craig Louis Dingman, Mike Swan, Charles Motley of the band called CAMP, and the Kern River troubadour known as Lost Hills.

Songwriters At Play holds showcases every Sunday afternoon, 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Sculpterra Winery, 5015 Linne Road, Paso Robles, 805-226-8881. The showcase includes one featured act and others playing 4-song sets. We pass the tip jar during the featured set, otherwise no cover. All ages are welcome -- great place for a family picnic!
