2010 Pinot Noir - $28.00 / $22.40 club
Our 2010 Pinot Noir, grown on the east side of Paso Robles, has a bigger, bolder flavor than most Pinots, highlighted by a keen sense of fruit and lingering textures. We test the limits of this finicky varietal and boldly go where few Pinots have gone before. Our 2 Pinot clones were planted in 2003, and grow on the rugged rocky terrain of our valley floor vineyard. Clone 115 (the classic French clone) is known for rich color presentation and tannic structure, while clone 777 (the Davis clone) is identified with sparkling, sweet fruit characteristics, all strawberry jam and cherry pie. The 2010 vintage was almost perfect for both clones. Clone 777 had a wide variety of fresh picked fruit, such as raspberry, strawberry, and even passion fruit. Clone 115 was far more robust, packed with dark cherry essence, and dense and rich in structure. In total 7 Pinot Noir barrels were blended and bottled; 2 barrels of clone 115 and 5 barrels of clone 777. A remarkable wine that showcases the varietal characteristics of a delicate yet jam-packed Paso Robles Pinot Noir. This rich blackberry and plum flavored wine will age gracefully but is drinkable now.

2009 Figurine - $34.00 / $27.20 club
2009 marks the third release of Sculpterra’s most unique and wildly popular blend-Figurine. Featuring fruit from our 130 acre estate vineyard, 2009 Figurine delights with a magical blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Primitivo and 12% Merlot. These three varietals, planted on the Sculpterra 130 acre estate vineyard, come for 4 separate “neighborhoods”. The Cab claims Hillside and Chivos respectively, and was harvested at the end of the ’09 growing season. This wine is a colossal experience that makes you think that any aroma or bouquet is possible in a world of unlimited blending potential. Blackberry, blueberry, ripe raspberry, mulberry, pomegranate, even watermelon are just a few of the fruits exploding with every twirl of the glass. Then you find peppermint-mocha, coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon and ginger. Figurine is a remarkable blend that highlights the diversity of these three unique varietals.

From The Winemaker:
Part of the challenge and fun of winemaking and vineyard management is experimentation. Sometimes this is the application of the newest methodology or science, sometimes it is a hunch. In 2012, I am rising to the challenge of several of our varietals that have difficulty ripening, in this case Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah. Enter "the Great Cross-arm Controversy of 2012". Will the application of spacing cross-arms in the vine rows, allowing better shoot spread, light penetration & space for the grape clusters to ripen evenly and without the potential of "rot & bot", accelerate these slowpokes to their best Brix potential and erase these maladies? I am choosing specific rows now for my experiment. I will report back later. Wish me luck. Paul Frankel
